In the autumn of 2015, with only a vintage reel-to-reel recording set up and a couple of decent microphones, I holed up in my log cabin in Maine, and proceeded to lay down the tracks for what would become this album. Using a spinet Cable-Nelson piano (on indefinite loan from an old friend), my grandfather’s 1925 Martin guitar, a fretless banjo, and a borrowed accordion, I went about recording these tunes, in as simple and spare a manner as possible. Features the harmony vocals of Ashley Storrow. Includes the songs: “All in Good Time,” “If I Had a Time Machine” “Let’s Give a Damn,” and “Gotta Go Where the Love Is.”

Praise for Kitchen, Love...

"The music itself draws elements from the roots of American music, featuring some beautiful clawhammer banjo playing, but is also informed by today's modern songwriters. Putnam's music isn't anachronistic or archaic, it's just heavily informed by a sense of reverence for our shared past and a deep abiding love for the future pathways of American music." - No Depression

"It will be on rotation on your summer play hit list for months to come." - Portland Press Herald

"Putnam Smith's music flows easily, sweetly, like a spring hidden in the woods..." - Sara Willis, Maine Public Radio

"In for a penny, he's in for a pound, especially adept at arranging a variety of acoustic instruments and backing singers into songs that capture the escapist zeitgeist of a time seeming to run parallel to the present day, where folks can focus intently on making a fine succotash and writing epistolary novels and without worrying about getting the kids to Little League..." - Portland Phoenix

"The music is fun, the ideas are thoughtful, and the variety of instruments keeps your interest. If you are ever fortunate to meet Putnam Smith or better yet to hear him play and sing, don't be surprised if you too don't begin to feel like stepping into the past." - Jim Blum, FolkAlley.com

"What is it that makes a record stand out? It's hard to describe....your mind and heart get engaged. Maybe there are goosebumps...it's magic and when it happens, it's satisfying on many levels. That's how I would describe Putnam Smith's new cd, "Goldrush". IT, all of IT, is there, just listen." - Sara Willis, Maine Public Radio

Tennessee Sessions: CD

“It’s always magic when we get together” says Putnam Smith, who became ‘brothers’ with fellow singer/songwriters Steven Bacon and Nate Spencer, after three formative weeks spent in Putnam’s log cabin in Maine. They first played music together when they met up at Folk Alliance International, in Memphis. “I invited them to come visit me at my cabin, and they stayed for three weeks. We kept playing music till 4 a.m. night after night. That’s how the Swamp Brothers were born. ” The name Swamp started out as a joke, referring to the road that Putnam’s cabin is on. Swamp Road Boys became Swamp Boys; by the time it had evolved into The Swamp Brothers, the name had stuck. These sessions, recorded at Steven’s place outside of Knoxville, Tennessee, after coming off a southern tour together, distills the spirit of the Swamp Brothers at their best. Recorded in a matter of days, on an analog reel-to-reel set-up, this album captures not only the feel of their vintage instruments, and the vibrancy of their songwriting, but also the joy of three friends getting together to share what they love most. “The Tennessee Sessions” marks their debut album as an acoustic trio.
